In the first floor of the Sakura Annex of the long-established ryokan “Iwaso” in Miyajima, a popular tourist destination representing Hiroshima, “BEAMS JAPAN Miyajima” opened on April 6, 2024 (Saturday).
In 2021, BEAMS JAPAN Miyajima had a pop-up store at the same location for about six months. This time, it opened as a permanent store as part of the BEAMS JAPAN GATE STORE project, which aims to establish collaborative local stores in famous scenic spots and tourist destinations across Japan.
Furthermore, as a GATE STORE, “BEAMS JAPAN Kobe” is scheduled to open on April 26th (Friday) at Kobe Port Tower in Hyogo Prefecture. Following the stores in Izumo Taisha Omotesando in Shimane Prefecture and Nikko Toshogu Shrine Omotesando in Tochigi Prefecture, four stores will be opened nationwide.
At BEAMS JAPAN Miyajima, they offer a variety of products, including store-exclusive items developed in collaboration with local businesses that specialize in crafts and local specialties from Hiroshima and Miyajima.
Original Products Exclusive to Miyajima
The following examples are all custom designs or exclusive projects for the Miyajima store. They offer unique items that can only be found here:
- Shamoji (rice paddle) made by Miyajima Kogei Seisakusho, a popular souvenir from Miyajima.
- Ceramic wind chimes handmade one by one by the third-generation owner of Ochi Pottery in Miyajima.
- Goshuincho (stamp book) made from recycled paper using origami cranes sent to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and towels made from recycled rayon yarn.
- Amulet cases and bags made from the fabric used to manufacture volleyball, boasting the world’s largest share, by MIKASA in Hiroshima.
- Tote bags made by Kataoka Shoten, established in the Meiji era, which manufactures school bags for many schools in Hiroshima city.
