The entire town becomes a sake event venue! Two days of indulging in the ‘Sake Matsuri’ in Saijo, Higashihiroshima, a famous sake-brewing area

The annual “Saijo Sake Matsuri,” one of Japan’s largest sake events, will be held in Saijo, Higashihiroshima, over two days on Saturday, October 12, and Sunday, October 13, 2024.

Event venues will be set up around JR Saijo Station, where the historic Sake Brewery Street is located. This major event, featuring hundreds of sake brands from across Japan, including Hiroshima’s local sake, draws large crowds each year as the entire town comes together to celebrate.

The main venue is Saijo Central Park, where a symbolic hexagonal tower will be erected in the center of the square, surrounded by booths offering sake and gourmet food. The venue also includes a stage where performances such as dance and music will be held.

The “Sake Hiroba” (Sake Plaza), where attendees can enjoy sake from all over Japan, will appear on the west side of Central Park. Visitors can sample and compare many brands of sake using a special tasting cup. Entry to Sake Hiroba requires a ticket, and the event operates on a complete 2-hour-and-30-minute rotating system. This year, there are no limits on the number of tastings within the time frame, allowing guests to enjoy as much sake as they like.

In addition, each of the eight breweries in Saijo will host their own special events. Many venues will offer limited-edition sake for sale and paid tastings of recommended varieties. Some breweries will also hold stage performances.

There will also be a kids’ area with games and activities for children to enjoy, as well as corporate booths and a venue where visitors can try Saijo’s local specialty, “Bishunabe” (a sake-infused hot pot).

Immerse yourself in the world of sake at Saijo’s Sake Matsuri. With many gourmet booths and lively festivities, why not join the event and enjoy this unique experience?
