At the first floor of the Hiroshima tourist spot, the Orizuru Tower, adjacent to the Atomic Bomb Dome, the renowned Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant “Micchan Sōhonten” has newly opened and started its operations, also renewing the handshake café.
The previous location where the handshake café operated is now occupied by Micchan Sōhonten, offering Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki to tourists.
About Micchan Sōhonten:
Micchan Sōhonten is a central establishment leading Hiroshima’s local gourmet scene with its Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. It is also said to be the birthplace of Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, named after the childhood nickname of its founder, Mr. Mitsuo Ise.
The exterior of the Orizuru Tower had a calm atmosphere, but since the renovation, a traditional Japanese-style noren curtain designed with calligraphy has been hung throughout the exterior of the store, transforming it into a lively appearance fluttering in the wind. The interior was bustling, including foreign tourists.
Handshake Café:
The Handshake Café has been revamped into a takeout format.
For drinks, they offer lemon squash made from lemons grown in the Seto Inland Sea and 100% juice from oranges produced in Hiroshima Prefecture. They also have a selection of Hiroshima’s local sake.
They also sell soft serve ice cream with maple leaf-shaped steamed buns or accompanied by lemon, which seemed to be popular among the tourists who stopped by.
In addition, there are various other items such as coffee and tea, perfect for accompanying a stroll through the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in spring.
