Hiroshima’s largest winter illumination event, Hiroshima Dreamination, has returned to the green belt of Peace Boulevard in Naka Ward, kicking off on Friday, November 15, 2024.
This year, the 800-meter stretch of Peace Boulevard is once again bathed in dazzling lights, drawing large crowds from the very first evening. A beloved winter tradition, the event has become a household name for Hiroshima residents. It’s not uncommon for locals to bump into friends or neighbors while strolling through the lights, exchanging greetings like, “Did you come to see the lights too?” This familiar scene adds to the event’s charm and makes it a must-visit attraction.
Themed “Fairyland,” Dreamination features whimsical displays of castles, princesses, pumpkin carriages, and merry-go-rounds. These enchanting decorations captivate visitors of all ages, from couples and families to young children.
One particularly heartwarming sight is little girls posing excitedly in front of the princess-themed illuminations for photos, their delighted expressions lighting up the night. Interactive installations also foster connections, with children—strangers just moments before—playing together with joy and laughter.
Adding a uniquely Hiroshima touch, the event includes an area celebrating local sports teams. Mascots from the Hiroshima Carp, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, and Hiroshima Dragonflies make appearances, delighting fans young and old.
A perennial favorite is the Green Woodman Forest, where the animated Green Woodman and Woodman Baby take turns entertaining visitors with playful conversations and games like rock-paper-scissors.
Other popular installations include classic staples like the Phoenix, a glowing train, a ship, and the mesmerizing light tunnel, which remains a favorite photo spot.
Standing tall as the centerpiece of Dreamination is the Shining Star Tree. This iconic installation captures the imagination of every visitor, whether they admire it from afar, take photos up close, or step inside to gaze up at its sparkling brilliance.
The event also features hot air balloon-themed installations, a giant photo frame, dinosaurs, and countless other illuminated displays spread across the entire area.
Dreamination will run until Friday, January 3, 2025. Lights are switched on nightly from 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the magic of Hiroshima’s winter wonderland!
