The “Hiroshima Bon Dance” will be held again this year over two days! A special event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing will share a message of peace

The “Hiroshima Bon Dance,” which is becoming a staple summer event, will be held over two days on August 9 (Saturday) and 10 (Sunday), 2025, at Hiroshima Gate Park in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City.

With the theme of “a new summer tradition,” this Bon dance event will feature special content to commemorate the milestone 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing, aiming to pass on the message of peace to future generations.

As part of the “Mosaic Art Creation Project,” which seeks to carry the message of peace into the future, a scene from In This Corner of the World, a representative work by Hiroshima-born manga artist Fumiyo Kouno, will be used as the base image. A mosaic artwork will be created using photo submissions gathered from the public.

Additionally, singer-songwriter HIPPY, who is also from Hiroshima, and atomic bomb survivors will participate in a special talk session titled “Let’s Listen to the Memories of That Day – Stories We Want to Pass On to the Future.” Limited to 50 participants, this will be a valuable opportunity to hear firsthand experiences from that time.

Photo submissions for the mosaic art project and applications to join the atomic bomb survivor talk session are both being accepted via forms on the official “Hiroshima Bon Dance” website.

This large-scale Bon dance event held in the heart of Hiroshima brings together people of all ages and nationalities to form a circle, dance, and share in the spirit of peace through enjoyment and connection.

Details of the event program will be announced progressively on the official website and social media platforms as they are finalized.
