First established in the time of Empress Suiko (554-628), the shrine that we see today came to be due to Tairano Kiyomori (1118-1181). Due to its location, during times of high tide when the waters rise, the whole shrine looks as it is floating in the water. Because of the changing tides, visitors to the shrine can experience many unique views surrounding the area. The flow of traffic through the shrine only goes in one direction, so be sure not to miss any great photo opportunities when you visit!
